–      Upcoming show set to outperform last year’s event
–      BioServices well received as new topical focus
Hannover, Germany. In just a few short weeks, the gates will be opening on BIOTECHNICA, Europe’s leading trade fair for biotechnology and the 黄金城游戏s taking place in Hannover, Germany, from 11 to 13 October. Thanks to some new features, Jürgen Fürstenberg-Brock (responsible for international trade fairs at Deutsche Messe, Hannover) is anticipating a particularly strong event: “The quality and appeal of the event will be enhanced by new special displays and an increased focus on keynote themes such as BioServices and food biotechnology.” He added: “The response by market players has confirmed that BIOTECHNICA is indisputably the leading European platform for biotechnology and the 黄金城游戏s.”

All signs point to the forthcoming event being a solid success: “It is already clear that the exhibitor turnout will surpass last year’s”, remarked Fürstenberg-Brock. “The increase of over 20 percent makes us feel confident about BIOTECHNICA 2011.” More than 600 exhibitors from 26 different countries will be showcasing their products, innovations and services in Hannover. Heinz Riesenhuber, former German Minister of Research and Technology, will officially open BIOTECHNICA on the first evening of the event.
The trade fair will focus in particular on recent developments in biotechnology and biotech applications in the health sector, food production, industry and the environment, as well as innovations in bio-processing/bioprocess technology and bio-analysis. BIOTECHNICA 2011 will cover a wide spectrum of services for the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. This year, technology transfer from research to industry will feature prominently.
An interesting program of international 黄金城游戏s, special presentations and workshops will augment the exhibition. These 黄金城游戏 will address common themes of central importance, focussing in particular on important trends and current issues over a wide spectrum ranging from biomedicine and bioinformatics to the three specially featured themes of BioServices, food and industrial biotechnology.
The response to the new focus on BioServices has been remarkably positive. More than 100 service providers from across the world have already signed up to join this new showcase, which features pharmaceutical and biotech companies side by side with highly specialized service providers in the field of bio-pharmaceutical research, pharmaceutical development and production. The keen interest in this presentation is made evident by the fact that in addition to a joint German display, there will now also be a stand representing French service providers.
A new special display and an accompanying symposium “Biotechnological Innovation in Food” will highlight the role of biotechnology in improving product quality and safety and thus contribute to increased consumer protection.
Another new addition to the program is the special display and forum “Industrial Biotechnology 2011”, where experts will consider the question as to how chemical processes can be replaced by biotechnological processes in order to make production more environment-friendly and sustainable.
A diverse supporting program will offer rich networking opportunities for visitors from science, industry, the services sector and politics. The Bio-Business Matching platform gives the show’s international attendees a prime chance to find suitable partners for cooperation, strategic alliances, patenting and financing solutions. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research will present projects which bring science and industry together, while the EU Initiative “Fit for Health” will provide insights into health research projects funded by the European Union. A number of open forums and meetings in the exhibition will offer an additional platform for initiating business deals.
New entrepreneurs can also use BIOTECHNICA as a platform for networking. At the Bio@venture Conference start-ups will present their innovative ideas to potential investors and venture capitalists. Another highlight will be the “jobvector career day”, which helps companies find qualified personnel.
Finally, the EUROPEAN BIOTECHNICA AWARD will be presented on 11 October, on the occasion of the BIOTECHNICA NIGHT. This year the award is targeted at organizations that have played a big part in successful technology transfer from academic institutes in the fields of biotechnology and the 黄金城游戏s. About a thousand participants from science, business, industry, the services sector and politics are expected to attend the award-giving ceremony.
